Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown was probably England’s greatest landscape designer. His life and times will be celebrated in 2016 with a kaleidoscope of events centred round his Northumbrian birthplace at Kirkharle, culminating in a Capability Brown Festival weekend, over August bank holiday.

Thurs 8, Fri 9 & Sat 10 September, 11am – 4pm – Heritage Open Days

For the third year running, Kirkharle hosted this event and were delighted to welcome school and family groups as well as adult visitors who learned about Capability Brown, his boyhood at Kirkharle and his life as the ‘Shakespeare of Gardening’.

Events climaxed with a birthday Festival starting on August Bank Holiday Friday in Kirkharle’s St Wilfrid’s Church, where the great man was baptised on 30 August 1716.

Flower festival
